I winced at the sound of Jenna's name. I stole a glance at her desk, crumbling inside when I saw the empty chair.
'Jenna Warren?' Mr. Rangesly repeated.
'She's not here,' I croaked.
Little did anyone know, Jenna would never be returning to school. Ever. She would never answer another question, eat anymore cafeteria food, or get jostled on her way to class. Never again would she be assigned homework, tests, quizzes, or projects. She would never mingle between classes or feel that little rush of excitement you always feel when school lets out. No, she wouldn't be experiencing anything anymore."
