P O E M

I came home from school

My backpack in my hand

I went and put it on a stool

Feeling rather grand

 

I had gotten four stickers in class today

For being on my best behavior

I wanted to tell Mommy right away

But I just couldn't find her

 

I looked everywhere

But she was nowhere to be found

So I headed upstairs

And took a look around

 

I found her in her bedroom

On the floor near her bed

She looked rather gruesome 

With a gun against her head

 

I pleaded for her to stop

But she just wouldn't listen

My tears began to drop

As her grip on the gun tightened

 

I quickly called Daddy

To see if he could help

But Mommy cocked the trigger thingy

And I had to hang up

 

I tried my best to stop her

I put up my best fight

But Mommy pulled the trigger

And she went out like a light

 

As I stared down at Mommy

Only one thing ran through my mind

Mommy had lied to me

By telling me it would be all right

 

I ran toward the stairs

When I heard Daddy's call

Daddy was standing there

Looking like he was about to bawl

 

Together we went to their room

And stared at Mommy silently

Then Daddy picked up the phone

Saying he had to call somebody

 

I called my two friends

Requesting for them to come over

Then I went outside

And began to mourn the loss of my mother

 

Soon my friends arrived

And I hugged them both tightly

They seemed confused

But hugged me back silently

 

Mommy had lied to me

That much I knew

My friends would stay beside me

That much I knew too
